Design Tip & Trend 4 – Make your sinks and backsplashes a focal point – Sinks used to be the ugly stepchild of the kitchen and were just a functional element to put dirty dishes – well this attitude about the sink is out the window! Decorative deeper bowls made of stainless steel, copper and stone composites are becoming all the rage. The backsplash is another area to add a distinctive touch. Glass tiles will continue to grow in use in 2013 for their stylish looks and ease of cleaning.
Design Tip & Trend 5 – Commercial grade appliances – Maybe it’s because we’re watching too many Rachel Ray shows – but more homeowners are turning to professional grade appliances than ever before. In the right neighborhood an investment in a commercial style range or induction cooktop can really help a kitchen stand out (and will also add resale value as well).
Design Tip & Trend 6 – Mixed colors & concealed cabinets – There will be an increase of mixing cabinet colors in the same kitchen that was seldom seen before. In addition you’ll see (or not see) more hidden cabinets to hide appliances, trash compactors and wine coolers.
Design Tip & Trend 7 – Countertops that look nice and are easier to maintain – Kitchen counters have changed greatly over the years (in the old days almost every countertop was a laminate – boy how things are different today!). While natural stone granite counters will still be in demand they are predicted to be taken over in popularity in 2019 by quartz composite materials which are easier to maintain.
